Brrrrrrrrr.......It is Snowy Self-Portrait Time!

Allie's self-portait

Mina's self-portrait

2nd and 3rd grade students learned about self-portraits.  A self-portrait is when an artist paints or draws a picture of themselves.  Students looked at a variety of examples of self-portraits created by different artists such as; Vincent Van Gogh, Grant Wood, and Chuck Close.  It was the perfect time of year to create a picture of ourselves outside in the snow!  We used a collage method to do a winter background.  Look at these wonderful examples done by Mina and Allie!

Jefferson Art at the Adminstration Building

Some of the Jefferson students will have their artwork showcased in the lobby of the administration building for the month of January. Patriotic-themed art created along with the school-wide government inquiry will be on display. The artwork is hung up in conjunction with the "Frederick Douglas from Slavery to Freedom Display" that is currently in the main lobby of the adminstration building. If you have a chance, stop and see the wonderful work our Jefferson bears have done!

Solar System Art

Anthony and Athena are working hard!

Gloria is proud of her work!

2nd grade students did an inquiry unit on the Solar System in their classroom and we applied what they learned in art class.  Students learned how to mix colors using pastel chalk to create planets and we used a splatter paint technique for the background.  Here are some examples of students working from Mrs. Wakeman's class.
