First and Second Grade Landscape Scarecrows

Students discussed different examples of landscape art.  We then created a landscape for a scarecrow using watercolors.  The next day we identified and created shapes from patterned paper to form a scarecrow.  This idea was inspired from deepspacesparkle.com.  We had so much fun making this project!

Below are examples of each stage of the project.

Colorful Cats

Students from 2nd and 3rd grade multi-age classrooms created cats in a unique way.  In each body part, the student came up with a different pattern using oil pastels.  We then used model magic to add three dimensional eyes and nose with wire whiskers.  Finally, we used gold paint to create a night sky. Check-out these creative examples!

Lots of Leaves!

4th and 5th grade students did observational drawings from real leaves.  They then traced over their pencil lines with glue mixed with black tempera paint.  We let these dry and then during our next class we used the color wheel to mix colors with oil pastels to add color to our leaves.  Students then painted a background color that complimented their leaves.   This idea was inspired from deepspacesparkle.com.
